Driving glasses - Better vision in low light

Better vision in low light

Your pupil reacts to the intensity of light in your surroundings, especially to light that directly strikes the eye. In daylight, the pupil is small (letting less light onto the retina) but at night it is large (allowing more light to pass through to the retina). In low light conditions (e.g. at dusk, dark days, in rain, mist or at night) the pupil will be between small and large.

A consequence of dilated (medium to large) pupils is less focused vision and a reduction in the ability judge distances. Sometimes called 'night blindness', people can be compelled to simply avoid driving in poor light or at night.

To give a safer and more comfortable driving experience the Zeiss DriveSafe lens is optimised to give the best vision taking into account the size of the pupil in low-light conditions.

Reduced glare at night

Glare is especially noticeable when driving at night when the pupils of our eyes are dilated (large) and bright light from car headlights, streetlights and reflections can be distracting and reduce visibility. To make matters worse, modern vehicles have Xenon or LED headlights which display a high proportion of blue light which the eye is more sensitive too at night.

The Zeiss DuraVision DriveSafe coating takes into account the many different situations during driving when our eyes are confronted with glare. It offers the same hardness and cleaning properties as other coatings but features a different kind of anti-reflective coating. Zeiss DuraVision DriveSafe coating reflects blue light (from modern vehicles and lights) and as a result reduces glare by up to 64% giving better, more comfortable vision in low light conditions and reducing glare at night from oncoming cars or street lights.

Clearer view of the road, dashboard & mirrors

Driving requires a high level of concentration with a broad view of the road and need to make fast and frequent eye movements between the view ahead, dashboard and mirrors.

The mid-distance zone of the Zeiss DriveSafe lens is up to 43% wider to allow the user to focus switch between quickly between the dashboard and mirrors. And the far-distance vision zone of these Zeiss driving lenses is up to 14% larger giving a wider view of the road ahead.

Zeiss DriveSafe Progressive - A varifocal designed for driving

For drivers from the age of 35 to 40, eyes are no longer able to adapt to different distances as they could when younger.

The Zeiss DriveSafe Progressive has a special design to make driving with progressive lenses more comfortable and safer. The optimised vision zone makes it easier for eyes to refocus as they move from the road to the dashboard, the mirrors and back frequently and quickly.

As well as driving, Zeiss DriveSafe Progressive lenses are suitable for all-day, everyday use whether at work, watching television or reading.
