! CAMPAIGN UPDATE: A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has already signed the Give Me My PD petition aimed at making buying glasses online EASIER and CHEAPER. In only 4 weeks we have almost 1000 signatures but we still need MORE.
! URGENT ACTION 1: If you haven’t already signed; PLEASE sign now by clicking here. Signing is easy, secure and will only take 30 seconds.
! URGENT ACTION 2: If you have already signed; PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL to 10 friends or colleagues who wear glasses and ask them to sign the petition too. They can read all about the campaign by clicking here.
! NEXT STEP: OFFICE OF FAIR TRADING. The job of the OFT is to ensure markets work competitively and in the best interests of UK consumers. In March Metsuki will file a complaint with the OFT requesting them to investigate the protectionist and anti-competitive regulations set by the General Optical Council.
! PRESS COVERAGE: OPTICIAN MAGAZINE the journal for Opticians reported on the “Give Me My PD” campaign (click here to read the article). This is the most read article on opticianonline!
! OPTICIANS TALKBACK: Read what professional Opticians are saying about the PD campaign:
“be careful about starting something that may end in the real truth being told, I’m sure the might of Specsavers et al will come crushing down” Steve Cockburn, Optometrist
“Opticians are forced to cross-subsidise this loss (from testing your eyes) from the sale of specs”
Steve, Optician

! INSTITUTIONAL PREJUDICE: OPTICAL CONSUMER COMPLAINTS SERVICE. The OCCS calls itself the “consumer watchdog” for complaints about glasses. In its annual report this is what the OCCS had to say about Pupillary Distance complaints made by people like you and me.
“Whilst we acknowledge the right of a consumer to choose where to purchase their glasses, we do not support internet purchases as being in the consumer’s best interest;” the report goes on to say, “An optician has no obligation to measure the IPD if not supplying glasses, and if asked to do so we accept that a reasonable fee should be charged. We fear that with the increase in internet purchases problems will increase and we will continue to explain to complainants that we cannot act on their complaint” Click here to read their full report or visit their website
! URGENT ACTION 3: WRITE TO YOUR MP. Ultimately it is our Government who have the power to protect the interests of voters and consumers. We have made it easy for you to write or email your Member of Parliament by giving you some simple guidelines and a link to find the email or postal address of your MP. Writing to your MP should take no more than 5 minutes. Click here to access these resources.
! FINALLY: This will be the last email that you will receive from Metsuki on this subject. You can follow the progress of the campaign at www.pupillary-distance.net which is updated daily and look out for coverage in the national press. Thank you for your support.
Your Sincerly
